As a lifelong hunter and shotgun shooter there were many unknow challenges when first starting out, when I started shooting shotguns you had very limited choices as far as chokes. Multiple fix choke factory barrels or a Polu choke whose ballistic performance was marginal at best were the options available back then.
Fast forward to the era of interchangeable choke tubes and usher in the shotgun sport of sporting clays and things began to change and change quickly. Every serious shotgunner knew that for the discipline of skeet you wanted a choke capable of handling the demands of that discipline, with it’s almost exact and predictable leads, skeet has it very dedicated shooters with their specific choke tubes for the discipline. For trap much of the same as far as presentations and distances specific to that discipline, then you have sporting clays where you have both skeet and trap type target presentations plus every imaginable type of target presentations there are, there went the one discipline specific choke tube. Out with the old and in with the new. Choke manufacturing companies seemed to be born overnight, everyone one of them claiming thattheir chokes are the best out there.
Here's where my storywith shotgun chokes begins, first in the waterfowl blinds, then as part of my equipment on the sporting clays course. Atfirst, I was a choke changing fool, I was also changing brands almost asquickly. As I developed and matured in mysportingclays shooting,to the point that I became a certified instructor (N.S.C.A. Level II), learning much along theway. I started hearing and readingabout Muller choke tubes, not only because of light weight they ae, not only for the fact that they stay clean and are almost free of plastic residue build up and are easy to clean, but mainly for their ballistic performance, thanks to the research and engineering by Jimmy Muller. I ordered a U1 & U2m shot them and compared them against all the other brands that I owned including factory chokes. Muller’s out performedthem all. I now have a complete set including another U2 choke for myprimary sporting claysover and under shotgun.I also have sets for my sub-gauge guns as well as my other shotgunsfrom different manufacturers. As Ireferenced earlier, I am also a hunter spending as much time as my demanding schedule allows during the seasons in the fields and waterfowl blinds as possible. Over the course of time, I read about andpurchase Muller H2o choke tubes and I say good by to the other brands that I was using. The ballistic performance on the Muller “Decoy” chokealone made the purchase of all 3 worth it! I’ve made shots on passing ducks with mydecoy choke that has left others that I hunt with in awe. I must admit I was awed myself, never thinking that I was going touch the duck let alone fold itstone cold dead.
When people ask me what brand chokes that I’m usingwhetherit’s for the shotgun sports or hunting my answer is simple. Muller’s. I then go to tellthem my experiences as a hunter, shotgun shooter and coach.Muller chokes have given me the confidence and erased any doubt in my mind of my shotgun chokes performance and capabilities.
